“Azubuike Presents”

 Show Archives

“Voices from the Community” interviews and the Master Class Series have been archived and hyperlinked for your viewing pleasure. Just click the link to the episode you want to view.

“Azubuike Presents” is our online platform that was created as our solution to connect with the community and our program participants during the 2019 Coronavirus pandemic. During the pandemic, all programs were moved online. However, to reach more of the Quad Cities community, the decision was made to use the Zoom and Facebook Live platform to advance our mission.

Thus, Azubuike launched its first-ever filmmaking “Master Class” Series, “Film & Conversation,” and a COVID-19 prevention social media campaign to support the Quad Cities’ African American community. Azubuike used its social media platform to create “Voices from the Community,” a Zoom interview series that highlights community members, telling their stories on how the pandemic has impacted their lives.

Description of Master Class: Directing Actors for Film
Every director wants to get the most out of actors. But how? Directing Actors for Film is a 1.5 hour summary of what a director does and how to take that and get the best out of actors.

On Set With
Urban Exposure

About the program:
Urban Exposure is a ten-week summer film program offered through a local non-profit, Azubuike African American Council for the Arts. The program provides an opportunity for young people in the Quad Cities to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking including writing, directing, cinematography, and editing. Under the supervision of experienced filmmakers, our students work with one another to realize their creative visions and produce their own films from start to finish.

By the end of the program, each participant writes, films, edits, and presents their films to the community during a premiere event held at the Figge Art Museum.

SUMMER OF SOUL, the directorial debut of Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, is a historical document created around the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival,
